    Our Story

From a Dream to a Texas Legacy

Marjie and Henry Christopher opened Rio Cibolo Ranch in 1987. What started as a passion for Texas hospitality grew into one of the most well-known event centers in the San Antonio region. Over the decades, the ranch hosted countless corporate events, celebrations, and even large-scale concerts featuring George Strait, Selena, and Dwight Yoakam.

They put years of hard work and love into building Rio Cibolo Ranch into something special — a place where groups of every size could come together, enjoy the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, and leave with memories that lasted a lifetime.

    This Is the Real Texas

Longhorns, pecan trees, and a spring-fed creek — not a backdrop, a way of life

    A New Chapter

    Same Soul. New Energy.

Son's acquired the ranch in 2023, updated and remodeled the facilities, and added Son's Rio Cibolo next door — 64 cabins, three pools, four hot tubs, and full resort amenities along two miles of creek.

We are deeply committed to continuing the wonderful hospitality tradition that started here nearly four decades ago. The land, the creek, the pecan trees, the longhorns — they're all still here. We've just added the amenities and polish to make your event even better.

Rio Cibolo Ranch is part of the Son's Getaways family, bringing professional hospitality management to a property with decades of soul.

    The Land

    A Real Working Ranch

This isn't a backdrop. It's a living, breathing Texas ranch with longhorns, buffalo, pecan orchards, and honey bees.

    Longhorn Cattle

Our longhorns graze the golden fields and guests can view and feed them up close. A true Texas experience that makes your event feel like the real thing — because it is.

    Buffalo Bonnie at the Ranch

    Bonnie & Chip

A buffalo named Bonnie and her beefalo offspring Chip — half longhorn, half buffalo — are ranch celebrities. "Cibolo" is the Spanish word for buffalo, tying the ranch's name to the very animals that call it home.

    Pecan Orchards Along the Creek

    Pecan Orchards

25,000 pounds of pecans harvested annually from the sprawling pecan orchards that shade the property. The majestic pecan trees create a natural canopy over event spaces and creek-side gathering areas.

    Bee Hives at the Ranch

    Honey Bee Farming

Our bees produce pecan honey from the flowering pecan trees — a unique ranch-to-table product. It's one of the small details that makes this place feel authentically Texan.

Cibolo Creek Through the Pecan Trees

"Cibolo" — the Spanish word for buffalo. The name connects the land, the creek, and the animals that have called this place home for generations.

    The Heart of the Ranch

    Cibolo Creek

Two miles of gorgeous spring-fed creek water frontage run throughout the property. Cibolo Creek is the heart of the ranch — it's what gives this place its character, its beauty, and its name.

"Cibolo" is the Spanish word for buffalo — tying the name to the land and the animals that have called this place home for generations.

Kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, tubing, and fishing are all available with a stay at Son's Rio Cibolo. The creek is the thread that connects every part of this property into one unforgettable experience.
